Treasure Valley Players Enjoy Sunny Arizona Tourneys!

From Dick and Lawana Johnson:

It seems these days that more Idaho players are either becoming actual winter snowbirds, or are vacationing in Arizona for a few weeks to enjoy the warm winter days…AND, to play the many outdoor tournaments there.  Wherever they stay in the sunshine state, its really fun for them to see each other at the various tourneys.

Here are some pictures from some closing tourneys in 2016:

Andy Roddick Plays Pickleball

From the Pickleball Channel

This past week the Andy Roddick Foundation held a fundraiser for the organization and the activity everyone was focused on was PICKLEBALL! Andy Roddick, world champion tennis pro, was there himself and played pickleball for the first time.

He was ranked number 1 in the world in 2003 when he won the US Open Grand Slam championship title. Playing professional tennis for 13 seasons Andy Roddick was ranked Top 10 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for 9 years in a row.  Retiring in 2012, Andy spends time supporting his philanthropic efforts based out of Austin, Texas. This particular event, supported by the ASK Charitable Foundation, raised funds to meet the goals of ARF which aims to enrich the lives of children outside the classroom.

Amer Delić, friend of Andy’s and tennis pro as well, and top pickleball players from around the country, like Scott Moore and Kyle Yates, showed up to support the event wholeheartedly.  The USAPA, represented by Christine Barksdale, showed their support as well and was excited to bring pickleball to the Austin, TX community.

Dick Johnson Wins Again

dj-natFrom Lawana Johnson

Dick Johnson recently competed at the 2016 USAPA Nationals and brought  home silver and bronze medals!

The tournament was the largest ever in pickleball history with 900 players of all ages competing over seven days in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Dick has medaled in nine consecutive  national and world tournaments in 2015 and 2016.  He has won 21 national/world medals (8 golds,  8 silvers, and 5 bronzes)–a feat accomplished by very few players of any age.

Next time you see Dick, congratulate him on a job very well done.
